FAQ's for Non - Profit Group Fund Raising Program at the University of Phoenix Stadium
What work would our group be doing if we were to fund raise through Centerplate’s program?
Centerplate utilizes non - profit organizations to operate concession stands during events. Your group would take “ownership” of a concession stand. What this means is that the group is responsible for the inventory, money, cleaning, preparing food, selling products, and providing customer service to guests during an event.
Does my group need to be identified as a 501 (c) 3 organization?Yes, this is Centerplate’s requirement.
Please go to www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/index.html, for additional information if your group does not already possess a 501 (c) 3.
What is the minimum age requirement for a volunteer?
Volunteers must be 19 years of age. Do our volunteers need a Maricopa Food Handlers card?Yes, this is a Maricopa County requirement. Food Handlers cards are FREE to volunteers. You can obtain the study guide for this test by going to www.maricopa.gov/envsvc/ENVHLTH/FDWKR.asp. A of locations to take the test is available on this website.
How much money can our group expect to fund raise by working at the University of Phoenix Stadium?
Our payment structure is commission, based on net sales of the concession stand. The amount of fund raising dollars greatly depends on number of volunteers, size of stand worked and number of events.
Is there training?
There is a mandatory non - profit orientation where all members of your group must attend. This class is a introduction to our policies and procedures as well as our alcohol serving policy. This class is approximately a two (2)hour time commitment. Additional training for job specific training i.e., stand manager, head cashier, cashier and cook training is provided prior to the non profit orientation classes and will last approximately an hour.
Snacks and beverages will be provided during these classes! Please contact Amie Dignan for dates and times at (623) 433-7223 or via e-mail at uopnonprofits@yahoo.com.
How many volunteers do we need?
University of Phoenix Stadium has several sizes of concession stands ranging from 12 people to 40 people. Your NPO Coordinator will work with you to determine what size stand will fit your group’s needs.
What do we wear for an event?
Every member must wear long solid black slacks, a solid white polo, and solid black non-skid, closed toed shoes. Centerplate will provide each member an apron and name tag at check in. Centerplate will also require each member to purchase a baseball cap that will also be part of your uniform.
Can we put our own signage up in a stand?
Centerplate provides signage for your group as well as name badges to identify your group as a non- profit organization.
How many events must our group work if we sign a contract with Centerplate at the University of Phoenix Stadium?
Groups are encouraged to participate in all events though out the year.
The more events worked the more money contributed to your organization!
What are the hours we would be working?
Stand Managers arrive about 3 to 3 1/2 hours before the doors open. The rest of the group arrives about 2 to 2 ½ hours before doors open. The result is approximately 8-9 hours for the stand manager and 6-7 hours for the rest of the group members. For a typical football game, event starts at 2:00 p.m. and doors open at 12:00 p.m. therefore check in would begin at 9:00 a.m.
Do we need to provide insurance?
The requirement is $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate. Group shall provide a certificate of insurance to Centerplate. If your group does not have liability insurance, Centerplate will deduct a portion of your commission. Many organizations cover liability for fund raising in their standard insurance plans.
Do we need to sign a contract?
Yes, Centerplate and your group enter into a Non – Profit Agreement which will detail Centerplate policies and commission structure.
How soon does our group receive our donation check from Centerplate?
The first check is likely to take 45 days from the 1st event. Subsequent checks will likely arrive within 3 weeks after the completion of an event.
