Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority (AZSTA)

The Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority (AZSTA), owners of University of University of Phoenix Stadium, is a Municipal Corporation dedicated to enhancing Arizona’s economy and the community's quality of life through the development of professional and amateur sports facilities, the attraction of entertainment, sporting, and business events, and through tourism promotion. AZSTA was created through an Act of the State Legislature (SB 1220) and referred to the voters of Maricopa County (Proposition 302), which was approved by the voters on November 7, 2000. AZSTA oversaw the design and construction of the stadium which was completed in August 2006. AZSTA is also responsible for distributing public funds generated by a tax on hotel beds and rental cars to additional stakeholders identified in Proposition 302, namely, youth and amateur sports, tourism promotion and Cactus League baseball. Based in Scottsdale, the Fiesta Bowl is hosts a variety of local events each year, as well as two elite bowl games – the Fiesta Bowl held at University of Phoenix Stadium and the Cactus Bowl held at Chase Field. At the core of the organization, though, is Fiesta Bowl Charities, which has contributed more than $8 million to Arizona nonprofits over the past six years. On Saturday, December 31st, the Playoff Semifinal at the 46th Annual Fiesta Bowl will bring together two of the four best Division 1 college football teams to fight for a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship. The stage will be set at University of Phoenix Stadium for one of the most high-profile games of the 2016 college football season. *Playoff Semifinal times to be announced by College Football Playoff. Home to the Arizona Cardinals, Annual Fiesta Bowl, the 2007 and 2011 BCS Championship and Super Bowl XLII and XLIX, 2015 Pro Bowl, 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship. During the inaugural year, S.A.F.E. recruited, hired and trained in excess of 1,500 staff while security licensing more than 750 of those staff through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
